This course offers a comprehensive foundation in IT, covering key areas such as communication, networking, web development, computer systems, IT security, and database systems.

Blending practical and theoretical learning, you’ll benefit from hands-on activities like setting up networks and developing websites, while also studying IT communication, security principles, and industry operations. With access to state-of-the-art computer labs and the latest software tools, learners benefit from strong industry connections that provide valuable work experience placements.

The course covers seven key units that provide a well-rounded education in IT.

  • Communicating in the IT Industry (Compulsory) Learn effective communication methods within the IT industry, including technical documentation and interpersonal communication.
  • Working in the IT Industry (Compulsory) Understand the structure and roles within the IT industry, including career opportunities and professional development.
  • Setting Up an IT Network (Compulsory) Gain practical skills in designing, installing, and maintaining IT networks.
  • Website Development (Compulsory) Develop skills in creating, designing, and maintaining websites using various tools and technologies.
  • Computer Systems (Compulsory) Learn about the components and functionality of computer systems and how to troubleshoot and maintain them.
  • IT Security (Compulsory) Understand the principles of IT security, including risk assessment and implementing security measures.
  • Database Systems (Compulsory) Learn to design, implement, and manage database systems, including SQL and database management tools.

You will need to submit a portfolio of evidence to show your understanding and knowledge.

Throughout the course you will have 36 hours per year with leading IT companies, providing hands-on industry experience as well as the chance to engage with employers through workshops, seminars, and real-world projects.

This course can lead to various career opportunities in IT such as network technician, web developer, IT support, and database administrator. It can also be used as a stepping stone for further education in IT, including advanced diplomas, certifications, or a degree in computer science or related fields.
