This course is a great introduction to studying science and is an excellent stepping stone to further study or a career in science.
On this course you'll develop the foundation skills so that you're ready to progress to the Level 3 Diploma, where you can further develop your knowledge and understanding of Applied Science.
You'll study a range of topics within applied chemistry and biological science such as:

- Energy and Our Universe
- Biology and our Environment
- Application of Chemical Substances
- Application of Physical Science
- Health Applications of Life Science
- The Living Body
- Health Applications of Life Science
- Science in Medicine
- Chemical Analysis & Detection
- Biotechnology Procedures and Applications
You will take part in regular practical activities and be assessed by coursework, assignments, research projects and 2 external exams.
You'll need to have at least 5 GCSEs, including grade 3 or above in Science, English Language and Maths to study this course.
On successful completion of this course, you'll be able to progress to the Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Applied Science or to a related Level 3 course offered at the college.
You'll also have started to develop the analytical and problem-solving skills that will stand you in good stead for a career in the science industries, and you may begin to start thinking about a career in one of the following areas: biology, chemistry, biochemistry, biomedical science, pharmacy, physiotherapy, radiography, dentistry or nursing.
