We work with local and national businesses to help students gain valuable experience and skills through work placements. These opportunities connect education with industry, benefiting both learners and employers. The knowledge and practical skills gained by learners are invaluable to help them to improve their future employability and career prospects.
Placements can be in person, virtual, or hybrid and must meet safeguarding and safety standards. The typical duration is 36 hours, but flexible arrangements can be discussed to fit your business needs.
Benefits to Employers
• Extra support on tasks or projects, especially during busy periods
• Students bring fresh ideas and new approaches
• Supporting students can provide CPD opportunities for junior staff
• Connect with education through industry-focused learning objectives
• Develop skills in potential future Apprentices or employees
• Contribute to your recruitment needs and Corporate Social Responsibility
Alternative Ways to Contribute to Work Experience
If a placement isn’t possible, employers can still support students by:
• Hosting workplace tours or field visits
• Offering industry talks or masterclasses
• Setting small projects for students
• Participating in careers fairs or mock interviews
Employer Duty of Care
To host a placement, employers must provide a safe, supervised working environment, a contact person, up-to-date Employers’ Liability Insurance, a completed Health and Safety form, and a signed agreement. Students may need extra guidance as this could be their first workplace experience. Clear expectations, a daily schedule, and regular feedback can make the placement beneficial for all.
