Apprentice pay and the National Minimum Wage
There are different rates of pay for apprentices depending on your age and what year of your apprenticeship you’re in.
Your employment contract should confirm your rate of pay.
Aged 16 to 18
The current National Minimum Wage rate for an apprentice is £5.28 per hour.
Aged 19 or over and in your first year
The current National Minimum Wage rate for an apprentice is £5.28 per hour.
Aged 19 or over and have completed your first year
You’re entitled to the National Minimum Wage or National Living Wage rate for your age.

Statutory Sick Pay (SSP)
You can get £99.35 per week Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) if you’re too ill to work. It’s paid by your employer for up to 28 weeks.

Holidays
You’ll get at least 20 days paid holiday per year, plus bank holidays.
Tax thresholds, rates and codes
The standard employee personal allowance for the 2023 to 2024 tax year is:
- £242 per week
- £1,048 per month
- £12,570 per year
