The BTEC Level 2 Diploma Preparation for the Public Services Course is designed for individuals who aspire to pursue a career in the uniformed or non-uniformed public services.

Whether you’re interested in the police, fire service, armed forces, or emergency medical services, this course will provide you with the essential knowledge, skills, and experience to take the first step towards your future career.

On this course, you will learn:

  • The role and responsibilities of public services
  • Teamwork, communication, and leadership skills
  • Health, fitness, and wellbeing in public services
  • Community engagement and problem-solving
  • Emergency service procedures and response strategies
  • Preparing for a career in public service

You’ll participate in hands-on activities, simulated scenarios, and group projects to develop the skills needed for a career in public services.

You will be assessed through a combination of coursework, practical assessments, and written assignments. There are no final exams, ensuring you can showcase your learning through real-world tasks and projects. Your progress will be monitored through:

  • Written reports and research tasks
  • Group discussions and presentations
  • Practical demonstrations and role play
  • Physical fitness assessments

You will need to have a minimum of GCSE Grade 3 or equivalent.

You will also need to have a strong interest in public services and a commitment to physical fitness will be beneficial.

We provide hands-on experiences and industry visits to prepare you for real-world public service roles:

  • Army Training Experience Day – Develop leadership and physical endurance skills
  • Fire Services Master Class & Station Visit – Learn firefighting techniques and emergency response procedures
  • Engagement Days with the Metropolitan– Gain insight into policing and law enforcement
  • Community Volunteering Projects – Make a meaningful impact in local communities


Outdoor Activities & Adventure Training

To develop resilience, teamwork, and practical skills, you'll take part in:

  • Camping & Outdoor Expeditions
  • Hiking, Climbing & Canoeing
  • Residential Trips – Apply skills learned during the course in real-world scenarios

On completion of this course, you can progress to:

  • BTEC Level 3 Protective Services
  • Apprenticeships in public service-related roles
  • Entry-level roles in the uniformed or non-uniformed public services, such as the police, fire service, or armed forces

There are number of routes you can take following successful completion of a course. Further study can include Higher Education courses or a Higher Apprenticeship where you will expand your skills through study whilst earning a wage. Or you may choose to move directly into employment.
