Are you thinking about a career in the emergency services, army or civil service?
This qualification has been designed to ensure learners develop the skills and behaviours that will give them the best opportunity to be successful when applying for work in public services.
To gain the full qualification in the allotted time, requires hard work, motivation, good attendance and punctuality.
This course includes a number of talks with current Protective Services workers, as well as outward bounds trips and a week-long residential stay in Wales! The physical elements of the course include: fitness sessions, hiking and one week's residential.
The qualification contains both mandatory and optional units which relate directly to the skills, knowledge and behaviours expected by employers in the public services sector. The areas covered include:
- Employment in the Uniformed Public Services
- Health and Fitness for Entry to the Uniformed Public Services
- Expedition and Land Navigation Skills
- Impact of Law on Public Services
- Crime and its Effects on Society
- Community and Cultural Awareness
- Attending Emergency Incidents in the Public Services
- Security Procedures in the Public Services
- Cyber Security & Crime
In addition, you'll develop transferable and practical skills in communication, professional behaviours in the workplace, reflective practice and preparing for interviews to secure employment
You will be required to wear a uniform as part of this course. The kit list will confirmed as part of your offer. Financial support is available, subject to eligibility.

You will need to have GCSE Maths, English Language and two additional subjects at grade 3 (D) or above.

Work experience is an opportunity to increase your understanding of the types of careers within different businesses, career choices, the qualities needed to enhance employability, employee rights and responsibilities, and what is required for particular jobs.
Employers will be encouraged to provide feedback to you with regard to your placement and your work readiness.
Successfully completing this course means you can progress to Level 3 Uniformed Protective Services, also offered at Barking & Dagenham College.
Achieving this qualification will give you an advantage when applying for a job in the public services sector and to further qualifications.
