This course will allow you to develop your understanding of mental health and the problems that can cause mental ill health.

This qualification aims to:

  • Focus on the study of mental health and a range of mental health problems
  • Offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge

The objectives of this qualification are to:

  • Raise awareness of mental health and a range of mental health problems
  • Increase your understanding of a range of mental health problems, which could be used to support your role in the workplace or where they may work or interact with individuals with mental health problems

On this course, you will learn:

  • Understanding depression
  • Understanding post-natal depression
  • Understanding bipolar disorder
  • Understanding schizophrenia
  • Understanding dementia
  • Understanding eating disorders
  • Understanding Attention Deficit
  • Hyperactivity Disorder – ADHD
  • Understanding Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
  • Understanding Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder – PTSD

You must successfully demonstrate your achievement of all learning outcomes and assessment criteria of the units.

There are no specific qualifications needed, however it would be beneficial to have previously achieved a Level 1 qualification in a health, social care or mental health related course.

On completion of this course, you will be able to progress onto:

  • Level 2 and 3 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care
  • Level 2 Award in Awareness of Dementia
  • Level 2 and 3 Certificate for Working in the Health Sector
  • Level 3 Certificate in the Principles of End-of-Life Care
  • Level 3 Certificate in Stroke Care Management

There are number of routes you can take following successful completion of a course. Further study can include Higher Education courses or a Higher Apprenticeship where you will expand your skills through study whilst earning a wage. Or you may choose to move directly into employment.
