Careers

Bricklaying

Continue your development to become a trained bricklayer.

This course builds on the skills learnt at Level 1 - and explores new areas too.

You'll develop the practical skills you learnt at Level 1 - but you'll also be taught about:

  • Cavity wall construction
  • Thin joint blockwork
  • Timber frame housing
  • Ongoing practical assessments
  • Tests for each 'unit' subject
  • An end-of-year online exam

You will need to have GCSE Maths, English Language and two additional subjects at grade 3 (D) or above.

As part of the application process you will also be asked to explain why you want to study this course, so that we can ensure any course offer made aligns to your career goals.

For entry onto this course, you'll need to have passed Level 1 of the Diploma.

You can move on to the City & Guilds Diploma in Brickwork at Level 3, which we also offer.

The Diploma is the training qualification you get at college. But to work as a professional bricklayer (either in the UK or overseas) you will also need an NVQ.

You can only do your NVQ in the workplace, where you are assessed on your skills whilst doing the job.

If you move into the workplace after this course, evidence of the work you've completed will help you towards a Level 2 NVQ award.
