The BTEC Level 2 First Extended Certificate in Engineering course is a full-time, one-year ‘general’ engineering course that aims to introduce you to a range of engineering sectors and disciplines, in order to develop your knowledge in these sectors and to enable you to discover your interests and passion in engineering.
Subjects covered in this course include:
- The Engineered World
- Investigating an Engineered Product
- Computer-aided Design
- Electronic Circuit Design
- Machining techniques
- Interpreting and Using Engineering Information
- Mathematics for Engineering
- Electrical & Mechanical Science for Engineering
- Engineering Design
The course is assessed through a mixture of exams (online and written), practical assessments, and assignments.
You will need to have GCSE Maths, English Language and two additional subjects at grade 3 (D) or above.
As part of the application process you will also be asked to explain why you want to study this course, so that we can ensure any course offer made aligns to your career goals.
You will also need to have successfully completed the EAL Level 1 NVQ Certificate in Performing Engineering Operations, or equivalent.
Complete this course and you'll have the choice of Level 3 engineering qualifications to move on to.
You could equally choose to enter the workplace, perhaps through an apprenticeship. You can also progress on to the T-Level in Engineering
