This course provides a hands-on introduction to engineering.
You will learn how to use tools, machinery, and design software safely while developing the personal skills needed to succeed in further study and employment. It is ideal for learners who are interested in starting a career in engineering and want to build both practical and academic confidence.
You’ll gain a mix of technical and personal development skills, including:
- Workshop skills such as machining, welding, mechanical servicing, and electronics
- Producing engineering drawings using CAD software
- Manufacturing products using hand tools and machinery
- Developing organisation, teamwork, research, and communication skills
- Creating a personal progression plan to support your career goals
Assessment is based on coursework, practical projects, and assignments. You will complete a portfolio of evidence demonstrating your skills and knowledge. There are no final written exams – progress is measured through the work you do throughout the course.
After completing this course, you can progress to a BTEC Level 2 in Engineering or another related qualification.
You will need to have GCSE Maths, English Language and two additional subjects at grade 2 (E) or above.
