Accessibility

This accessibility statement applies to the Barking & Dagenham College website.

This website is run by Barking & Dagenham College. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. This means that you should be able to:

  • zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below:

  • some areas of the website feature complex data which is pulled in from external resources (such as course information and labour market information systems)
  • most older PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software
  • signed documents that have been scanned and uploaded may contain elements that are inaccessible to screen readers

Non-accessible content

  • There are PDFs which require document titles, image alt text and sufficient colour contrast.
  • Proposed fix: PDFs to be reviewed and updated to add titles, add missing image alt text and set sufficient colour contrast.
  • WCAG success criteria: WCAG 2.4.2, WCAG 1.1.1 and WCAG 1.4.3
  • Date to fix problem: 1 September 2026
