What are cookies?
When we provide services, we want to make them easy, useful and reliable. This sometimes involves placing small amounts of information on your device (computer or mobile phone, for example). These include small files known as cookies. They cannot be used to identify you personally.
Cookies are pieces of data sent between a user’s web browser (such as Internet Explorer or Google Chrome) and the server which is hosting the website being visited.
There are different types of cookies used for a variety of functions, such as:
• User sessions – tracking website usage in an anonymous form (e.g. Google Analytics)
• Authentication – when logging into a member area on a website
• User’s preferences – saving language settings when visiting an international website
• Shopping cart contents – storing items in a basket as the user continues shopping
You can find more information about cookies and learn how to manage them yourself at: www.allaboutcookies.org.
