The Pearson BTEC Level 4 Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Applied Sciences is a higher education qualification designed to provide learners with a strong technical and academic foundation for employment or progression within the applied science sector.
It is a nationally recognised qualification aligned to the Framework for Higher Education Qualifications (FHEQ) Level 4 and developed in collaboration with employers, professional bodies, and higher education institutions.
The programme is vocationally focused, combining theoretical scientific knowledge with extensive practical laboratory experience, ensuring learners are well prepared for real-world scientific roles.
The programme consists of 120 credits, typically delivered over one academic year full-time (or part-time equivalent). Learners complete a combination of core, specialist, and optional units.

You will be assessed through an internally assessed assignment completed as part of the programme.
To apply for this course, you will need a Level 3 qualification in Applied Science or a related subject, or an Access to HE qualification.
You will also need GCSE Maths and English at grade 4/C or above.
On successful completion, learners may progress to a Level 5 HND, degree-level study, or higher apprenticeships, including pathways aligned with the Technician Scientist standard at Level 5.
