The Level 1 Introductory Award in Health, Social Care and Science is designed to give you a broad introduction to health, social care, childcare and science.
This course is ideal if you are exploring your career options and want to build confidence, skills and knowledge before progressing to further study.
The programme supports learners who may not yet meet the entry requirements for a full Level 1 Diploma but can demonstrate motivation and the potential to progress in health, social care or applied science.
On this course, you’ll develop an understanding of the different types of health, social care and children’s and young people’s settings. You’ll learn about the roles and responsibilities of workers in care and childcare environments and what is expected of them.
You’ll also explore the importance of communication, equality, diversity and inclusion, alongside safe working practices and basic safeguarding awareness. The course helps you develop essential academic, practical and employability skills while introducing scientific principles that support health and care.
You’ll be assessed through internally assessed assignments, allowing you to demonstrate your learning through coursework.
You will need to have GCSE Maths, English Language and two additional subjects at grade 2 (E) or above.
As part of the application process you will also be asked to explain why you want to study this course, so that we can ensure any course offer made aligns to your career goals.
After successfully completing the course, you’ll be able to progress to a Level 1 Full Diploma in Health and Social Care or other subject areas. If you achieve well, you may also be able to progress to Level 2 courses.
