This course introduces you to the exciting and fast-paced world of games development, enabling you to turn your passion for gaming into creative, playable experiences.

Delivered by a dedicated team of industry-experienced professionals, the programme offers an engaging and practical learning environment designed to prepare you for progression into Higher Education or a career within the games industry.

You will have the opportunity to work in specialist games labs equipped with powerful gaming PCs and professional software, gaining hands-on experience with industry-standard tools and technologies used in real-world games development.

On this course, you will develop a broad range of technical and creative skills, enabling you to create games independently from scratch and work effectively as part of a wider development team. You will learn to:

  • Design, create and market professional video games
  • Develop 2D and 3D games and produce playable prototypes
  • Understand game design principles, mechanics, narrative techniques and player psychology
  • Use industry-standard software including Unity3D, Unreal Engine, Blender and Maya

A key focus of the course is 3D modelling and asset creation. You will learn to concept, design and produce stylised, game-ready assets, as well as create and animate a complete 3D character. This includes:

  • Anatomy modelling
  • Retopology
  • Clothing creation
  • Texturing
  • Animation

Your learning will be supported by essential theoretical, industry, contextual and critical knowledge, helping you understand professional workflows and current industry practices.

You will be assessed through a combination of coursework and portfolio work.

You will need to have GCSE Maths, English Language and two additional subjects at grade 4 (C) or above.

As the course comes to an end, you will have refined your skills, developed your individual creative identity and began to specialise in areas aligned with your interests and career goals.

On successful completion of this course, you will be prepared to pursue opportunities within the games industry as a freelancer or employee or progress into Higher Education.

There are number of routes you can take following successful completion of a course. Further study can include Higher Education courses or a Higher Apprenticeship where you will expand your skills through study whilst earning a wage. Or you may choose to move directly into employment.
