This course provides a comprehensive foundation in IT, covering essential areas such as communication, networking, web development, computer systems, IT security and database systems.
It combines both practical and theoretical learning, giving you the opportunity to develop technical skills while building industry knowledge.
Practical elements include setting up IT networks, developing websites and working with computer systems and databases. Theoretical aspects focus on IT industry communication, security principles and professional operations.
The course is ideal for both logical thinkers and creative minds, with creativity particularly encouraged in the Website Development unit where students design and build their own websites.

On this course, you will learn seven compulsory units designed to give you a broad and practical understanding, including:
- Unit 1: Communicating in the IT Industry - Develop effective communication skills, including technical documentation and interpersonal communication
- Unit 2: Working in the IT Industry - Gain insight into the structure and roles within the industry, as well as career pathways and professional development
- Unit 6: Setting Up an IT Network - Learn how to design, install and maintain IT networks
- Unit 9: Website Development - Build, design and maintain websites using a range of tools and technologies
- Unit 14: Computer Systems - Understand computer components and functionality, and learn how to troubleshoot and maintain systems
- Unit 18: IT Security - Explore IT security principles, risk assessment and how to implement security measures
- Unit 20: Database Systems - Design, implement and manage databases, including SQL and database management tools
You will be assessed through a combination of coursework, practical assignments and projects. You will demonstrate both technical skills and theoretical knowledge across all units.
There are no formal written exams.
You will need to have one of the following:
- Three GCSE passes, including either English or Maths
- A Level 1 vocational qualification in a related discipline
You will complete 36 hours of work experience each year with leading IT companies, gaining valuable industry insight.
You will also take part in the Employer Engagement Programme (EEP), which includes 36 hours of workshops, seminars, and real-world projects with employers.
On successful completion of this course, there are multiple progression routes, including:
