This course incorporates sequencing, performing & creative composition processes and aims to develop broad skills to create an all-round 21st-century musician.

The course focuses on developing a wide range of knowledge and skills and includes exploring different ways of working in various musical styles, creating material and sequencing techniques as well as planning a creative career.

Much of the course involves practical explorations and public performances alongside project-based work, as well as building a personal portfolio.

On this course, you will learn:

  • Using Musical Styles
  • Creating Musical Material
  • Performing as an Ensemble
  • Planning a Career in the Industry

You will study in a creatively rich environment within our College for the Performing Arts, Music & Technical Theatre. You will also have access to rehearsal and performance spaces.

You will work collaboratively with other students on productions at a range of venues, and you will have the opportunity to create your own vibrant and innovative pieces.

You will be assessed through practical rehearsals and performances, written documents and presentations.

You will need to have GCSE Maths, English Language and two additional subjects at grade 4 (C) or above.

As part of the application process you will also be asked to explain why you want to study this course, so that we can ensure any course offer made aligns to your career goals.

There are a range of trips and workshops with industry professionals and stakeholders.

On successful completion of this course, you will be able to progress onto the Extended Diploma in Music.

Career progression

There are number of routes you can take following successful completion of a course. Further study can include Higher Education courses or a Higher Apprenticeship where you will expand your skills through study whilst earning a wage. Or you may choose to move directly into employment.
