The City and Guilds Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training is a foundational teaching qualification that includes a practical teaching component. Whether you are an in-service teacher/trainer or a pre-service candidate, you will gain comprehensive knowledge and skills that are vital for effective teaching and training.

Skills you will develop:

  • Understanding the roles and responsibilities of a teacher/trainer concerning legislation, equality, diversity, inclusivity, and meeting the needs of learners.
  • Conducting initial and diagnostic assessments and planning and delivering inclusive teaching and learning sessions.
  • Planning engaging and motivating sessions for learners.
  • Applying suitable teaching and training approaches.
  • Making formative and summative assessments of learning.
  • Utilising appropriate resources to support effective learning.
  • Employing digital applications to enhance training and teaching.
  • Evaluating training and teaching sessions to identify areas for improvement.

  • Preparing for the personal tutor role

Assessment is conducted through a combination of practical teaching evaluations, written assignments, and portfolio submissions. You will be required to demonstrate your teaching skills in a real classroom environment, ensuring that you can apply the theoretical knowledge gained during the course.

This qualification requires access to 30 hours of teaching practice, allowing you to gain hands-on experience in a real educational setting. This practical component is crucial for developing your teaching skills and applying the concepts learned during the course.

Upon completing the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training, you will be well-equipped to pursue employment as a teacher or trainer in the post-16 education sector.

There are number of routes you can take following successful completion of a course. Further study can include Higher Education courses or a Higher Apprenticeship where you will expand your skills through study whilst earning a wage. Or you may choose to move directly into employment.
