Work experience and all that jazz

29th April 2016

Aspiring sound engineer and music student at Barking & Dagenham College, Nathaniel Mutombo, has just enjoyed a work experience opportunity which was a bit out of the ordinary, at the world famous Soho jazz club Ronnie Scott's.

Nathaniel, 20, from Romford, was lucky enough to be secure one of only 8 places offered by Ronnie Scott’s this year.

Nathaniel said

“I was very nervous but it’s been an amazing experience allowing me to work in every side of their business, from the box office to helping prepare the food. For me the best part was working with their sound engineers and they even let me announce an artist.

“I’ve been asked to work at the MOBO Awards in the November, so this opportunity has really opened doors for me.”

Fatine Boumaaz, who leads the work experience programme at Ronnie Scott’s, added

“The work-experience programme that was initiated in 2013 at Ronnie Scott’s, has been and continues to be a gratifying and enriching experience for all concerned. The candidates have shown keen interest, promise and initiative at our club within the core areas of music administration, box office, sound and video engineering and hospitality. We are proud to be able to play some part in informing and encouraging young talent within these fields.”
