Unity in Diversity

7th July 2025

Barking & Dagenham College celebrated World Day of Cultural Diversity by holding its very own event – Unity in Diversity.

Rush Green Campus was a hive of activity as hundreds of students and staff took part in the event and there was certainly lots to take part in!

Students got the chance to watch a demonstration of traditional henna designs before getting their own henna designs too. There was also the opportunity to find out about the cultural roots and the artistry involved in braiding alongside a number of displays, all designed to showcase different cultures.

Students also got the chance to enjoy some incredible food and live music, including a set from musicians using traditional African talking drums. There was also a host of other student-led performances, cultural quizzes and traditional dress showcases, ensuring everyone who attended had a brilliant time.

The Unity in Diversity event was fantastic. It was such a vibrant and uplifting celebration of culture. There were so many displays and activities highlighting different cultures and it was just a joy to see so many people come and take part and share conversations around such important topics of culture, identity and inclusion. The aim was to highlight and honour the wide range of cultural identities within our college community and the response from both staff and students was incredible.
