Trainee chefs help out in national competition

20th June 2018

They assisted competitors taking part in the national final of the National Association of Care Catering (NACC) Care Cook of the Year competition on 6th June.

Professional chef and lecturer, Drew Chipps was asked to be one of the judges in the competition and put forward four students to assist the competitors as commis chefs.

In preparation for their important task they received extra training on being a commis chef from Drew. A commis chef is the first step on the journey to becoming a chef, and was a great opportunity for the students to see professional chefs in action.

This is the fourth year that the industry-standard catering kitchens at the Academy have been chosen to host this competition for professional chefs working in care homes across the UK.

The four sous chefs Daren Payne, Nicoleta Zamfir, Ben Carroll and Andreia Rodrigues Silva thoroughly enjoyed the occasion and were delighted to receive a gift from the judges in recognition of their work.
