The garden design project with Tommy Walsh will help the young people to develop many useful skills
A tired old garden, in dire need of a makeover has been given over to the students to redesign with the help of the celebrity Tommy Walsh.
A group of students for whom mainstream education didn't work, are going to get a special lesson in landscaping from TV’s Tommy Walsh.
The students aged 14-16 came to Barking & Dagenham College after struggling on a school environment. For the majority mainstream education has not provided an environment for them to flourish in. As part of their studies, the college has arranged for them to be involved in a real-life landscaping project at their Rush Green campus.

Prior to Tommy’s visit, the students are busily working on their designs which Tommy will then help them to complete.
The garden design project with Tommy Walsh will help the young people to develop many useful skills, for example it will enable them to take ownership and responsibility. As well as using their maths skills to measure and plan they will use design skills in their tutorial groups.
Tutor Diana Aynaci says: “They are deeply excited that Tommy Walsh is going to discuss their designs and enable them to consider their choices fully.”
