Francesca Denby, 20, from Romford, has been running her own business, Francesca?s Flowers, since 2015 after qualifying as a florist at Barking & Dagenham College.
Francesca (favourite flower, the Hydrangea) completed her City & Guilds in Floristry Level 2 in 2014 and, after a spell working in a retail florist, decided to become her own boss
“Of course it is nerve-wracking setting up on your own,” explained Francesca“but I’ve seen how my Mum and Dad juggle their own business and home life and I wanted to be my own boss too.
Harnessing the power of social media“I market my business through social media channels such as Facebook and Instagram, but also word of mouth. I love the variety and creative of floristry, and when I get a brief from a client that allows me to do something really different I get so excited.
“I enjoy the pressures that come with working on large scale projects such as weddings, even the crazy hours. It’s my job to stay calm for the bride!
A fishy challenge
“My most interesting challenge yet? It has to be to reproduce a fish, a Carp to be exact, in flowers and foliage.
“My floristry course was excellent. Fiz is a brilliant teacher, she really knows her stuff and is very supportive too and that means a lot.”
