21st October 2025

BDC students have launched BDC Minds Matter, a new student-led mental health campaign to mark World Mental Health Day.

Students launch campaign on World Mental Health Day 2 2

The initiative, led by 18 Level 3, second-year Health & Social Care students, forms part of their Mental Health and Research curriculum. For many of the students, who have been at the College for three to four years, it’s also a way to leave a lasting legacy and make a positive impact on the wellbeing of others.

Minds Matter is a cross-college collaboration, with learners from Media, Film & Technology and Photography working alongside the Health & Social Care team to create engaging content and events.

Activities include monthly 'Spill the T' sessions in the Student Lounge - relaxed meet-ups offering refreshments and peer-to-peer support - and 'Walk & Talk' wellbeing sessions encouraging students to get outdoors, connect and take time away from social media.

The campaign launched with a fundraising raffle, raising £59.10, with prizes donated by staff and departments including Amazon vouchers, meals from the College’s restaurant Chefs Hat and free haircuts and massages in its salons.

Project lead Helen Berends said: “This isn’t just about mental health - it’s about applying what our students have learned and making a real difference.”

Student Stephanie Benson added: “Your mind matters, your voice matters. At BDC, you matter.”

Fellow student Khushbu Khan said: “BDC Minds Matter, because your mental health is just as important as your grades.”
