National knitting week 1

Students in stitches

14th October 2015

Students at Barking & Dagenham College celebrated National Knitting Week recently by setting up a knitting group with local expert Natasha Necati from Crafty Arts Ltd in Romford.

Over cakes made by trainee chefs and served in the College’s Coffee Shop, Natasha helped students get to grips with casting on and basic stitches.

Something new

"Today I had the great opportunity to teach some lovely young ladies something new,” said Natasha “It has always been a dream of ours to not only sell craft and hobby materials but also to teach people and get them excited about what they can create with their hands.”

Knitting for charity

Karlene Sutherland, Youthworker and Student Mentor at the College,

“Natasha has helped to change the students’ perception that knitting isn’t just for the older generation.

"Now our knitting group will be meeting twice a month and they want to work on knitting a blanket to donate to a charity this Christmas.”
