Young people from across the borough are offered the chance to explore their creative sides.
As part of the National Saturday Club campaign, being held at Barking & Dagenham College and aimed at 13-16 year olds, participants will be able to join clubs within art, design, film and media.
The free courses are a great way for young people to get creative and learn new skills. It’s also an opportunity to discover more about these industries and the possible career options they could lead to.
The Art&Design Saturday Club, will cover a variety of activities including drawing, painting, printmaking and darkroom photography. While the Film&Media Club introduces members to the College’s new film and audio recording studio. Members will have the opportunity to create a short film and soundtrack and then edit both into a final broadcast standard production, which will be showcased at a special event held at the College.
There is also a chance to learn about Games Art & Animation, introducing the world of games character design and games animation. Club members will get the opportunity to design and create a character for a computer game and have a go at creating an animation using industry standard software.
There is even the opportunity to hone your skills in Esports. Club members will be introduced to and develop various strategies for several different games on a variety of platforms including PC, PlayStation, Xbox and VR. They will also have the chance to coach their own Esports team and learn how the equipment in the College’s high tech Esports arena operates before showcasing their new skills in a mini Esports tournament.
Club members also get to take part in national events, including Masterclasses with leading industry professionals and the Summer Show, where Saturday Clubs exhibit their work in a public exhibition.
It is the chance to explore, to experiment and to be part of something exciting, as well as a chance to make friends along the way. The first Saturday Club takes place on 8 October and runs through to June 2023.
