Using any creative medium, such as photography, illustration, painting, moving image and textiles, approximately 500 students will be coming up with unique postcard designs, which will go up for sale in aid of World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
This fundraising event, which gives a nod to Picasso, who is often credited as one of the founders of mixed media work, has been entirely organised by the College’s photography students from the BTEC Extended Diploma, as part of the course.
The idea has come from the Royal College of Arts world-famous ‘RCA Secret’ fundraising exhibition, which involves famous artists and alumni designing postcards which are sold for charity, without the buyers knowing who designed them until they’ve bought it. In a similar way, students will write their name on the back of the postcard, which will not be revealed until a member of the public has bought it.
All the postcards will be on display in The Gallery at Barking & Dagenham College, Dagenham Road from 21st March - 13th April 2018, with a special Opening Reception on 20th March 2018, 6-8.30 pm. Members of the public are invited to view and buy the postcards throughout this time. The postcards are available at £5 each, three postcards for £10, or 5 for £15. The postcards will also be available to view and buy online during the same period, at www.postpicasso18@tumblr.com
The opening reception will be held on 20th March 6-8.30 pm and all are welcome to attend.
David Bennett, Programme Leader of Photography at Barking & Dagenham College who helped the students to organise the event said: “This is the second year we are running this amazing event which has brought together students across all creative disciplines to produce original pieces of work for a well-deserved cause. The students of photography have done a tremendous job in putting this event together as part of the coursework and I am very proud of what they have achieved in a short period of time.
“This has given the students the skills and knowledge to be creative and to plan and organise an event where art can benefit others in need. We are hoping this year’s event will be even bigger than last year's”.
