Earlier this month, Kiran Bhangal, a tutor and SENDCO Lead at Barking & Dagenham College, was honoured with an invitation to His Majesty the King’s Garden Party at Buckingham Palace.

The event recognises individuals across the UK who have made outstanding contributions to their communities and professions. Kiran’s sister, Jasbir Kaur was invited in recognition to her 25 years’ service in the military and Kiran, who was previously named British Dyslexia Association Teacher of the Year was vetted and allowed to join her sister.

She described receiving the invitation as “such a privilege”, adding “I was thrilled.”

The garden party took place in the grounds of Buckingham Palace and brought together a diverse and inspiring group of guests from all corners of the country. Reflecting on the experience, Kiran said what struck her most was the spirit of service shared by so many guests. “The atmosphere was one of warmth and appreciation, as guests mingled, shared stories, and enjoyed the regal surroundings and afternoon tea.”

When asked what memory will stay with her the longest, she said: “The palace gardens, picturesque setting with blooming flower beds, and serene pathways. Afternoon tea was a true delight, featuring finely crafted sandwiches and refreshments served in a beautifully refined setting. It was a pleasure to engage with so many remarkable individuals from across the country, each honoured for their contributions to their communities and professions.”

Summing up, Kiran said: “It was a truly unforgettable day. From strolling through the magnificent royal gardens to soaking in the warm and uplifting atmosphere, every moment felt special. Meeting His Majesty and witnessing the longstanding traditions of the Palace was a true privilege.”
