We are absolutely thrilled to celebrate the incredible journey of Lucy Gibson.
Lucy Gibson, one of
our outstanding students, who joined the Project SEARCH programme at Queen’s
Hospital in Romford, in September 2024 has secured an Apprenticeship.

Project SEARCH is an acclaimed programme designed to support young people with learning differences and additional needs into employment through real-world, hands-on work placements. For Lucy, it marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter and her story is one of determination, resilience and outstanding personal growth.
From the moment she started her internship, Lucy embraced every opportunity that came her way. Her first placement was in the fast-paced Dermatology department, a demanding environment where she worked as an administrative assistant. Here, Lucy was responsible for preparing surgery notes, managing patient appointment communications and providing essential support to the clinical teams. Despite the pressures of the role, Lucy demonstrated remarkable professionalism and quickly adapted to the busy hospital setting.
Eager to develop her skills further, Lucy transitioned to a second placement within the Theatres Administration team. In this role, she was tasked with completing rosters for the theatres and holding bays - a responsibility critical to the smooth running of surgical operations. She also built her confidence by answering phone calls, liaising directly with consultants and stepping up to support the reception and healthcare assistants. This included attending patients' bedsides with surgeons as they prepared for surgery, a task she took on with care and compassion.

Throughout her placements, Lucy’s confidence, communication skills and professionalism grew exponentially. Her supervisors consistently praised her commitment to her work, her ability to learn quickly and her positive attitude.
Lucy’s hard work culminated in an incredible achievement: after attending an interview independently, she was offered an Apprenticeship as a Theatre Healthcare Assistant - within just one hour of her interview!
As Lucy begins her Apprenticeship, we know this is just the beginning of a bright and inspiring career in healthcare. Her story serves as an inspiration to students across the college - proof that with hard work, the right support and a positive mindset, anything is possible.
Congratulations, Lucy – we are all incredibly proud of you!
