Students and staff from the Technical Skills Academy in Barking held a Pancake Day race in aid of charity yesterday.
A circuit was set up in Short Blue Place outside the college and competitors has to do a minimum 3 flips for each section; awards were given for the fastest male and female and for the two best flippers
Pancakes were also on sale to the public in the Chef’s Hat 2 restaurant upstairs (not those that had been flipped, thankfully!). Profits from the sale of these were donated to the Salvation Army Food bank.
Hilary Moore, Head of the Technical Skills Academy at Barking & Dagenham College said:
"When John Peacock (English tutor) suggested that we run a Pancake Day race, I was happy to support. We once again brought together our diverse student community - many with no knowledge of this tradition - in a fun activity; we also ran sessions in English, Maths and tutorials around Shrove Tuesday/Mardi Gras."
“An intense competition for the winners’ medals ensued and there was much laughter; I am very proud to have been top female pancake flipper!"
