Ribbon cut at grand opening of new community hub in college

Barking and Dagenham Council opened a new community hub at Barking & Dagenham College on 15th May.

Celebrating the launch of the ‘Eastbrook and Rush Green Community Hub’ were special guests, councillors and members of the community.

Local residents were invited along for an afternoon of free family fun and activities; they had the chance to explore stalls from local support services, music from a DJ, and even some magic tricks!

The new hub provides access to Borough services, information and advice on a range of matters for community residents. The booth will have an information, advice and guidance tool that residents can use to directly access these services and receive help and support.

Cllr Maureen Worby, Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care Integration cut the ribbon at the event held in the college’s Learning Resources Centre.

Cllr Worby said: “I am so pleased to open Eastbrook and Rush Green Community Hub in partnership with the college which is the 12th hub now open in the borough.

“The new hub at the college’s Rush Green Campus will mean that residents in Eastbrook can conveniently access council services alongside the help and support they need in their local area, rather than having to travel to the Town Hall.

“When we first conceived the idea of Community Hubs, Eastbrook and Rush Green was one of the hubs I was most excited about opening. It encapsulates our whole vision around the hubs in making council services more accessible to residents by placing them in locations that serve as the heart of the local community.”

Natalie Davison, Principal and CEO Barking & Dagenham College added: “We are delighted to partner with the council on this new community hub which will provide free help and valuable support on a range of issues. Over the coming months, we look forward to welcoming more members of our community into the College.”
