A maths teacher and the maths head of department from Barking & Dagenham College were both picked out at the Maths Teacher of the Year Awards last week.
London North East Maths Hub ran the inaugural Maths Teacher of the Year Awards at Queen Mary University of London, last Thursday after being inspired by the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, who held a similar event last year for maths teachers within the borough; they loved the idea and thought it would be fantastic to open this accolade to the whole region and celebrate the excellent teachers.
Two maths teachers from Barking & Dagenham College were given awards: Sameer Huda was named Level 3 Maths Teacher of the Year and Danielle Watts was named Level 3 Maths Head of Department.
Danielle, who received her award from Bobby Seagull a local celebrity, maths whiz and University Challenge semi-finalist, said:
It was a brilliant afternoon and I am truly honoured to have won this award. I could not have achieved this without fantastic colleagues and family supporting me, for that I am grateful.
