Celebration of dance to showcase new home-grown talent

4th February 2015

Seven Barking & Dagenham College dance and choreography students will unveil a series of brand new dance performances on the stage of The Broadway Theatre in Barking, as part of their Dance Platform show on Wednesday 11 February 2015.

These new works have been created by the talented students who are all studying at the College’s School for the Performing Arts & Technical Theatre which is based at the Broadway.

Natalie Doherty, Curriculum Team Leader for Performing Arts at the College explained about the performances. She said: “Giving upcoming choreographic talent the opportunity to create new work and to perform that work in front of a paying audience on a real theatre stage is an amazing and valuable creative experience.”

Natalie continued:

“We throw open our rehearsal spaces and ask the students to show us what they can do. They draw from their own dance interests – urban, contemporary, jazz, ballet, tap – and what you get is a vibrant and exciting mix of new work.”

Cathy Walsh OBE, Principal and CEO of the College, added:

“Increasingly, East London is becoming a hub for the creative industries. There has been much comment recently in the media about training in the performing arts industry becoming the preserve of the privileged few. Barking & Dagenham College at the Broadway Theatre shows that there are opportunities for everyone with the talent, drive and ambition to aspire to get the skills they need to launch successful careers.”
