Praised by his Lecturer as ?An excellent student, with a great attitude, good manners and a strong desire to achieve?, Kieran George is well on the road to becoming a fully-qualified electrician with ambitions to continue his studies at degree level.
Kieran, 19 from Hornchurch, explains why he chose the electrical route,
“I started at Barking & Dagenham College one day a week when I was still at Eastbrook School, studying for my BTEC in Construction alongside my GCSEs. This introduced me to lots of different construction trades – carpentry, painting and decorating, plastering - but it was electrical that I really enjoyed.
Talent spotted for an ApprenticeshipKieran was taken on by Bowmite Electrical & Mechanical Ltd in Essex as an apprentice electrician in January 2015.
“My family is in property development, so I have had an insight into the industry,” continued Kieran “so after I left school I joined the full-time City & Guilds electrical course at Level 2 at the College and then in January 2015 I got the job with Bowmite. Now I’m at College one day a week, studying for my City & Guilds electrical at Level 3, and work as part of a team on site with Bowmite the other 4 days.
“I enjoy learning new stuff. I’ve been working across London – from Canary Wharf in the east to Fulham in the west – I like the variety.
“Once I am a fully-qualified electrician I want to aim for a degree. That may mean university or I could keep working and study for one of the new Degree Apprenticeships.”
Asset to our businessMartin Darnell, Electrical Contracts Manager at Bowmite added,
"Providing apprenticeships within our business is a great way of growing talent for the future and the company. We hope that they train and learn with us and this will lead them to have a full career with us and work their way up the ladder.
"Kieran has been an asset to the business. He has the right attitude towards the job and shows initiative and enthusiasm. He is quick to learn and gets to grip with new tasks."
