Tyler is currently studying a level 2 and 3 course in finance and accounts and hopes to go into chartered accounting in the future.
In school, Tyler enjoyed both maths and business studies, and that's what first sparked an interest in accounting. After visiting the college and speaking with some of the tutors, he was confident that he wanted to pursuit a career in finance and this course would be the perfect place to start. In the past he has studied subjects which rely heavily on coursework, but says he prefers this course as it focuses more on exams.
Tyler says he always feels comfortable talking to tutors and knows that they are always there to offer advice and guidance.
“As part of the course my teacher arranges webinars for us to attend outside of lesson. Over the last few months, I've attended webinars with companies including KPMG, Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and PwC and recently I attended one in the half term break and found it very beneficial. I feel supported by my tutors and know I can always go to them if I have any questions about the work or what I plan to do after college.”
At the moment, Tyler is still deciding whether he will go on to study at university or complete a level 4 course at BDC.
“To anyone thinking about studying finance and accounts, speak to the tutors beforehand. I found it so helpful talking to tutors for the courses I was considering and getting a true understanding of what I could expect.”
