The new Young Mayor of Barking and Dagenham has been helping students understand the effects of alcohol as part of Alcohol Awareness Week (14th-18th November).
Pelumi Oyewo, was at Barking & Dagenham College where she studies, taking part in a number of activities organised by the charity, CGLSubwize. It included the Bake-Off Challenge, where students had to decorate cupcakes while wearing beer goggles that simulated the feeling of being under the influence of alcohol.
Pelumi Oyewo, Young Mayor of Barking and Dagenham and Barking & Dagenham College student said: “It’s important for people to understand how alcohol can affect you. With challenges and activities like the Bake-Off Challenge, students found it much harder to carry out tasks then they thought. It’s really shown them what alcohol can do.”
Lydia Townhill, from Subwize added: “Alcohol Awareness Week is all about making people aware of the risks associated with drinking alcohol. It was great partnering with the Young Mayor and her assistant at Barking and Dagenham College.”
