28 year old Jess Richardson from Leyton, East London completed a BA in Animation at Barking & Dagenham College in 2014.
After graduating, she picked up some freelance work and then secured in a job as a junior motion graphics designer. In 2016 she got her first full-time job for Sassy Films, Elstree. Jess says:
I learnt a lot as a junior including basic designing and picture documents and UX work. I wanted to do more animation though and so I was pleased when I managed to secure a job for Raw London who do charity films and online content for some big names such as Marie Curie Cancer Care as a motion graphic designer.
A few weeks ago Jess started her new job where she works exclusively from home, doing education animations for Clarity Comms/Pindex. She is a full-time motion designer doing animation, after effects and video editing.
At the moment she’s very happy not having to get to central London every day for work; although she thinks after time she might get cabin fever and look for a job in an office!
Jess really enjoyed her time at Barking & Dagenham College and said that the best thing about it was the support network: “It was great doing a degree at the college rather than university because there are much smaller class sizes and a lot more support.
You also do lots of trips, for example to animation studios across Europe; I went to studios in Prague, Berlin and Amsterdam and I absolutely loved it. It was really great experience for us all. I’m really glad that I did my degree at Barking & Dagenham College rather than at the University where I was going to go initially.
