Students learn about online safety from Breck Bednar?s mum

1st October 2018

The importance of staying safe online was discussed at Barking & Dagenham College last week.

Lorin LaFave visited to share her son Breck Bednar’s tragic story with students. Lorin founded the Breck Foundation after the loss of her 14 year old son Breck through internet grooming. Using Breck’s story, Breck Foundation Speakers travel the UK educating the Digital Generation to keep safer online.

Lorin campaigns for a safer internet and helps to train police, educators, health practitioners, safeguarding leads, parents and pupils to ensure that young people are empowered to make safer choices for themselves online.

The students said the session was "emotional" and "eye opening".

The activity was part of Safe College Week, an annual event organised by the College with lots of seminars and workshops on the topic of keeping safe.
