A former Barking & Dagenham College student has become the latest in his family to join the armed forces, a career which now spans three generations!
Montel Watson, 19, from Dagenham, studied sport at the College and having completed his course and Army training, is now Rifleman Watson, of the British Army.
For Montel, joining the forces was almost inevitable. He was a cadet when he was younger and has always enjoyed being active. Indeed Montel has never been happy sitting at a desk or being in one place for very long. That coupled with his family history meant he was keen to join the Army. Montel now follows in the footsteps of his father and grandfather who were both in the Army. In addition, Montel’s sister served in the Royal Navy and his brother has joined the Royal Marines.
Montel says his College course served him well. He comments: “Doing the sports diploma helped me get fitter in preparation for my Army training. I really enjoyed my time at Barking & Dagenham College and now I’m loving my job too. In factI can’t see myself doing any other job.”
Karen Boxall, Learner Involvement Co-ordinator at Barking & Dagenham College watched Montel progress throughout his studies. She added: “We’re all really proud of Montel. He was a great sports student and we wish him every success in his chosen career.”
