Get set, go! Students help at athletics competition

10th July 2017

Students from Barking & Dagenham College put their sporting skills into action recently, helping to organise the QuadKids Primary School Athletics Competition.

The event, held over two days at Mayesbrook Park Athletics Arena in Dagenham involved around 900 pupils from 28 schools across the borough.

Pupils took part in four events – a sprint, a middle distance run, a vortex howler throw (which provides the same action as a javelin throw) and a standing long jump.

The Barking & Dagenham College students, who are members of the rugby and football academy, were volunteer young leaders – responsible for running the events –and group managers, helping and mentoring the pupils as they participated in the competitions.

With the weather just holding out for the competitions, everyone was able to enjoy themselves. The College students stated they had had a brilliant time with the children and organising the races and hoped they would be able to help again next time.
