Claire Watkins Creative Arts Technician had a work selected for display at a prestigious event during London Craft Week this May

Her work was exhibited in the Future Icons exhibition after being selected through a rigorous selection process. Future Icons took over Oxo Tower Wharf’s iconic Bargehouse for the event, presenting the works of over 70 leading artisans from all over the world; Claire was one of the artisans selected.

Over 2000 visitors attended the event to view the work of Claire and other artisans. Textile artist Claire’s pieces are inspired by nature and the woodland near her home: They are stitched representations of natural entities each having its own little woodland vignette in which to live. Some of these components are given their own glass domes which helps to protect them along with creating a snapshot of their world.

Her proud colleagues from the Creative Arts department at BDC attended the ‘Private View’ to show her their support.

We are very proud of Claire. The college were pleased to sponsor her as part of continued professional development and it has been great to demonstrate to the students the relevance of their teaching team as practising, professional artists.
