Students faced their own Dragons’ Den during Global Enterprise Week (16th November) in a bid to win the amazing opportunity to run their own shop.

18 Barking & Dagenham College students pitched their business ideas to a panel of judges; they had to convince the judges that their ideas were valid business ventures and would work well as a new shop, located on College premises. The ideas included CANDI – a sweet shop, Deidade handmade jewellery and 10/Ten Slush – a slushy drinks shop.

Adnan Mahmood, Chief Entrepreneurial Leader at Barking & Dagenham College commented: “The students really showed the panel how much talent they have for business. The ideas that were pitched were great. Everyone who took part deserves congratulations for all the hard work they put in.”

The College, on Dagenham Road, Rush Green has several shops and a public restaurant along with its glass-fronted façade; these are used to give students the opportunity to gain real-life work experience opportunities. The new shop will be open to members of the public and will open its doors before Christmas.

The students now have to wait for one agonising week to find out who is getting the fantastic opportunity to open their own shop. The winner and runners-up will be announced on Wednesday 23rd November.
