We have met the Matrix Standard

26th January 2023

We are delighted to announce that we have successfully met the Matrix Standard for Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance.

Achieving the standard means that we are offering our students the best careers guidance, meaning they will be equipped to make the right choices for them in their future careers.

The Matrix Standard is the international quality standard for organisations that deliver information, advice and/or guidance as part of its services. Achieving the Standard is no small feat. The work that goes into meeting the requirements is immense and quite rightly, an important ongoing process. It also involves a three-day assessment before you are informed if you have been lucky enough to be awarded it.

Good careers education and advice is a critical part of preparing students for life once they finish college. It gives them the knowledge, understanding, confidence and the skills needed for their careers. Our team is there to help students decide which courses to do, what career direction to take and prepare them for employment.

It’s an ethos that carries through the whole College. As well as our dedicated careers advisors, our on campus ‘Advice Street,’ includes areas where students can access a variety of help, from financial support, to help with admissions and we also ensure this guidance continues every day in our students’ curriculum.

We work with employers to ensure our courses provide the students with qualifications and skills that are needed, and industry leaders regularly visit the College to give talks or run workshops.

We are also linked to the Mayor of London’s Academy Hubs, which bring together employers and education to develop pathways into employment. On top of this, we provide excellent work experience opportunities. Just recently some of our students were given the chance to find out about the film and TV industry when they were employed as runners on an upcoming advert featuring Jude Law. This gives just a snapshot of the incredible opportunities open to our students.

In these tough times, young people need the best support they can get to help them carve out their future careers. They need to know what the opportunities are, what the employment market is like, what the future industries are going to be and how to get into them.

We are incredibly proud of the whole team at Barking & Dagenham College for the work they are doing to make that happen.
