Academy strides out in aid of Sport Relief

23rd March 2018

Students and staff Technical Skills Academy held a sponsored walk on Thursday 22nd March in aid of Sport Relief.

About 30 people set off from Barking Abbey on a one mile route, marked out with ribbons, ending back at the Academy in Barking town centre.

The idea was to support The Nation’s Billion Steps Challenge to beat one billion steps per day, every day, for the week of Sport Relief.

Money was raised by staff and paying to participate and, for those who were unable to join in the walk, fruit was on sale to raise further donations.

English Lecturer Diana Aynaci, who organised the sponsored walk said: “We have raised well over a hundred pounds today and we have sponsorship money to collect and more fruit to sell on Friday.”

Hilary Moore, Head of the Technical Skills Academy, who was in charge of pushing around the measuring wheel to record the distance added: “We completed 60,000 steps towards the Nation’s Billion Steps Challenge.”
