Rajit, Applied Science BTEC

“The course helped me understand how science really works - beyond the textbook.”

Rajit Bhargava knew that a practical approach to learning was the best fit for him. That’s why he chose to study a BTEC in Applied Science - a course built around lab work, assignments and real-world applications.

“I’ve always been more hands-on,” he explains. “The BTEC gave me the chance to really understand science, not just memorise facts for an exam.”

His favourite part of the course was the time spent in the lab. Whether he was exploring membrane transport using beetroot or testing enzyme reactions, these experiments brought complex concepts to life and sparked his interest in the healthcare field.

Rajit also took part in enrichment activities including the WorldSkills Show and science outreach events, where he developed new technical skills - even using microcentrifuges. “Those experiences made me more confident and showed me how science connects with real careers.”

He credits his tutors for pushing him to achieve his best: “They helped make tough topics manageable and kept me aiming high.”

Now, Rajit is focused on the future. He has his sights set on a career in healthcare, specifically in nephrology and has already secured an interview for a Trainee Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeship.

His advice to other students?

“Go for it - especially if you learn better by doing. BTECs give you the skills and confidence to move forward, whether that’s into university or straight into work.”
