From a very young age Katie has known that she wanted to pursue a career in Engineering. Growing up her father was an RAF Engineer, and this is what first sparked an interest in this area.
Over the years Katie's passion has only increased, and she is now studying a T Level course at BDC in Development for Engineering & Manufacturing.
At school she enjoyed practical subjects such as Design and Technology and excelled at Triple Science, which she felt gave her an understanding of engineering.
Before joining Barking & Dagenham College, Katie had looked at her options and decided that a T Level course was the perfect blend of both practical and written assignments. Now enrolled on the course, she is looking forward to her industry placement, where she will develop an understanding of engineering in a workplace environment.
“When I was younger, I always knew I wanted to be an engineer. My dad is an RAF engineer so it's something I've always grown up around and that’s definitely what first gave me the idea that this could be a good career path. I feel like I've learnt so much on the course already including how to dissect a prototype drawing and understand the difference between first and third angle drawings. ”
After completing her T Level course, Katie is hoping to follow in her father's footsteps and join the RAF as an engineer with the skills and knowledge that she would have learnt on her course.
“I've been studying my course for around 5 months now and I'm really enjoying it so far! With this course being brand new it's very exciting to be one of the first classes to be studying a T Level.”
