“There was so much that I created over that time that I'm really proud of.”
Ayelet studies Art & Design and aims to achieve a triple distinction, or even a distinction star in her BTEC.
After being homeschooled and competing as an ice skater, Ayelet shifted focus due to a physical disability and chronic pain. Her love for art led her to complete a Level 2 BTEC in Art online and it became clear that a practical, vocational route was the right fit.
Since starting college, Ayelet has embraced every opportunity to develop her skills. She exhibited two years of artwork at home and reflects proudly on her progress. “There were lots of things I enjoyed. I created so much over that time. I also made two very close friends at college - friends for life, I hope.”
Ayelet took part in a competition with the local branch of the charity Mind, designing a gingerbread house for their Christmas Land event and won. It was her first time collaborating with a client and gave her a real taste of working to a brief. “It helped me understand what professionals expect in the real world.”
Support from staff played a big part in her journey. “My tutor was amazing - really passionate and really cared.”
Ayelet is set to study Fine Art and Drawing at the University of the Arts London - a goal she's had since she was 13 and is excited to continue growing as an artist.
“I’ve never really been academic and I have ADHD, so the BTEC style of learning really worked for me.”
