Computer Access for Vulnerable Learners

Computer Access for Vulnerable Learners

The Government recently announced additional support for Colleges and young people to access remote education, for 16-19 year old learners. Students without a suitable device and/or connectivity to study remotely, and whose family cannot afford these costs will be eligible. Barking & Dagenham College are currently providing learners with access to laptops, chromebooks and internet access, on a student loan basis for learners that meet the following criteria:

  • 16-19 year old learners without a suitable device and/or connectivity
  • Looked After Children and Care Leavers without a suitable device and/or connectivity
  • Vulnerable learners with an EHC Plan without a suitable device and/or connectivity

If you meet the above criteria and need to request a device and/or connectivity, please email library.staff@bdc.ac.uk with your request and student ID number.

If you do not meet the criteria, you can access support by contacting the following organisations who are currently providing assistance:

https://www.onlinecentresnetwork.org/ - support with digital access and skills

https://www.ukcommunityfoundations.org/ - help for older and more vulnerable people and disadvantaged children

https://www.autodesk.com/education/free-software/featured - free CAD download

Learners that have requested devices and/or connectivity and whom have been assessed as meeting the criteria above, will be informed directly of the day and time that they will be able to collect their resources from the Learning Resources centre, at the Rush Green Campus.
