This course is aimed at those who wish to work as Installers of Photovoltaic Panels, primarily in domestic properties. It will give you a solid grounding and hands on experience in fitting real solar PV equipment.

It covers communicating and working with others, working at heights, PV systems, locating, preparing testing, handling, fixing and completing the installation of photovoltaic panels; the importance and requirements of health and safety are emphasised throughout the qualification.

The core learning areas on this course will cover:

  • Communicating and Working with Others in the Glass and Related Working Environments
  • Confirm PV Panel Installation Requirements
  • Knowledge of Photovoltaic Systems
  • Locate, Test, Handle and Position PV Panels Prior to Installation
  • Maintain Health & Safety in the PV Panel Installation Working Environment
  • Understanding the Procedure to follow after the Discovery of Materials Containing Asbestos Cement Exposed During the PV Installation Process
  • Use Access Equipment to Work at Heights
  • Prepare the Structure for PV Panel Installation – Existing Structure and New Build
  • Fix PV Panels into a roof structure
  • Fix PV Panels onto a roof structure and non-roof structure
  • Ensure the Glass Related Installation is Completed Safely and Handed Over to the Customer
  • Post PV Installation Activities

This course will be assessed through a portfolio of evidence, including competence based and assessments.

You should have an NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation (Building Structures) or equivalent earlier certification and must also have passed your 17th Edition Wiring Regulations.

On successful completion of this course, you will be able to move onto a higher-level qualification or into employment, working as a PV Installer, Installer or PV Technician.
