Many patients develop an infection in England each year while being treated by the NHS.

Protecting people from infection is a really important part of providing high-quality care, especially as some life-threatening infections can spread easily within care environments.

This course is delivered entirely online and can be studied at a pace that suits you. You could complete in as little as 6 weeks dependent on the time you can commit.

On this course you will learn:

  • the purpose and principles of infection control and the procedures
  • how regulations inform policy and practice
  • the roles, responsibilities, principles and processes in relation to cleaning, decontamination and waste management
  • the role of risk assessments
  • the importance of maintaining a clean environment
  • the sterilisation process
  • how to safely handle laundry
  • how to safely handle sharps

To register for this course you'll need to:

  • currently live in England
  • be aged 19+
  • have been a resident in the UK/EU for 3+ years
  • not be on an apprenticeship

On successful completion of this course, you’ll have earned a NCFE CACHE Level 2 certificate which could also help you progress your career, or enter a new sector.

Where it can lead to

There are number of routes you can take following successful completion of a course. Further study can include Higher Education courses or a Higher Apprenticeship where you will expand your skills through study whilst earning a wage. Or you may choose to move directly into employment.
