Sport

If you're successful in your trials for our Football Academy or Rugby Academy then you'll study the Sporting Excellence and Performance qualification alongside your sports training.

Professional playing careers are relatively short so you’ll benefit from having other career options when you retire from professional sport.

Find out more about our Football Academy, in partnership with Dagenham & Redbridge FC, and our Rugby Academy, in partnership with Saracens.

On this course you’ll improve your knowledge and understanding of the anatomy, physiology and nutrition required for professional physical performance.

You’ll also have the opportunity to choose from a wide range of optional units in sports development, sports massage, coaching, fitness development and much more, depending on your interests.

There are no exams on this course. You’ll be assessed by demonstrating practical and technical skills in case studies, projects and coursework.

You'll need to have 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, including English and Maths.

Being recruited to a sports academy and studying for a recognised qualification at the same time will help to future proof your career.

This qualification is also suitable if you're wishing to progress to higher education.

Where it can lead to

There are number of routes you can take following successful completion of a course. Further study can include Higher Education courses or a Higher Apprenticeship where you will expand your skills through study whilst earning a wage. Or you may choose to move directly into employment.
